Portage
Portage is a Canadian non-profit organization whose goal is to help people with substance abuse problems overcome their addiction and live happy, sober lives and productive. Since our founding in 1973, we have helped thousands of people turn their lives around through our specialized drug rehabilitation programs offered to adolescents, adults, pregnant women and mothers with young children, addicts suffering mental health problems, to indigenous people, and to individuals referred by the justice system. Through comprehensive and cost effective interventions based on the therapeutic community approach and positive psychology, we offer services in our many centers in Quebec and New Brunswick.
The impact of your donation
By supporting Portage, you’re part of the solution and play a key role in implementing complementary activities that are vital to the success of the therapy. Thanks to your generosity, the Portage Foundation can support all its clients through these enrichment activities: sports activities, music lessons, scholarship, eco-responsible project, leisure activities and specialized workshops for people affected by traumatic events.
Portage provides its clients with a rehabilitation journey that is unique in Quebec, guiding them from admission through to social reintegration. The moment they arrive at Portage, young people continue their education through on-site classes. The Portage Foundation supports the following essential services: social reintegration (ongoing weekly support for 18 months), supervised apartments, support for family and friends and continuous staff training.
In order to better understand the real impact of your donations, here is the testimony of a young graduate of the Adolescents and Young Adults Program :
“I went to a party at the start of my third year in high school. A friend handed me a wax pen, a type of vaporizer with a high THC concentration. From that moment on, without realizing it, I began using it much more frequently to cope with the kinds of problems many young people face. The social worker at my school, along with my parents, encouraged me to enter Portage to regain control of my life. During the program, I got to know myself better and also developed a healthy relationship with my friends and family especially through the parent-teen workshops. Since leaving the program, I still encounter challenges, but I handle them much better.
Thanks to the entire Portage team who supported me and continue to assist me through the aftercare program. I also want to thank my parents who kept believing in me.” Laurie
